Obituary

Mary Sclafani Faraci, 99, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 11, 2021 surrounded by her
family. Born on May 16, 1922, in Brooklyn, New York, Mary was the oldest of 5 children born to
Damiano and Grace Sclafani. From a young age she developed a love of sewing and creating.
She completed 8 years of school and then attended a vocational high school for 2 years where
she studied dressmaking and textiles. At the age of 16 she began working in a factory to learn
how to sew on power machines and did this for 11 years. During the war years, Mary kept busy
with her friends by going into New York City.  She saw plays, movies, went skating and enjoyed
dancing which is where she met her husband of 61 years, Jim. Jim and Mary welcomed two
daughters, MaryAnn and Grace. She enjoyed using her talents to sew clothing for them as well
as making items for their home like bedspreads and curtains. In her later years Mary learned to
crochet and made many items both for herself and for others. In addition to creating, Mary
enjoyed traveling, reading, painting, jigsaw puzzles, word search puzzles, playing games and
enjoying her nightly routine of watching Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy.

In addition to her parents, Mary is preceded in death by her husband, James Faraci; her
brother, Joseph Sclafani; her sister, Rose Faraci. Left to cherish her memory are her daughters,
MaryAnn Autorino and Grace (Patrick) Iannuccilli; grandchildren, Stan (Tricia), Christine (Kevin),
Joanna (Jason), Allison (Greg) and Lisa (Johnny); great grandchildren, Nicholas, Emma, Ruby,
Lucy, Kate, Henry, James, Emilia and Molly; sisters, Gussie Casciola and Lena Radicella; along
with numerous nieces and nephews.
