Obituary

Marvin Lee Pippins, fondly known as "Shorty," passed away unexpectedly on July 7, 2026, in Suffolk, Virginia, at the age of 79. Born on January 13, 1947, in Nansemond County, Virginia, Shorty lived a life full of love, laughter, and dedication.

Shorty is remembered for his remarkable career as a truck driver, having driven over five million miles without a single accident. He specialized in transporting tanker trucks filled with carbon dioxide and other gases, exemplifying dedication and skill in his profession.

Outside of work, Shorty cherished spending time with his friends and family. He was a regular at karaoke nights on Thursdays at Il Paesano's and enjoyed playing bingo and socializing at the Suffolk Moose Lodge #141. Handy with tools and a jack of all trades, Shorty found joy in vegetable gardening with his buddy, Roy, and was an avid boxing fan.

A devoted member of Elevate Church of Windsor, Virginia, Shorty's faith was a guiding force in his life. He is preceded in death by his loving parents, Sherman Roland Pippins and Eunice Josie Harris Pippins; his beloved wife of 33 years, Rebecca Louise Vick Pippins; and his sisters, Katherine Taylor, Eunice Cutchins, and Deborah Ivey.

Shorty leaves behind a legacy of love through his sons, Michael Lee Pippins (April) and Steven Ray Bartlett (Gayle); grandchildren, Tracey and Mark Pippins, Jonathan Bartlett, and Lindsey Lenker (Bryan); and great-grandchildren, Bentley, Oliver, Maddie, and Ocean Lenker. He is also survived by his sister, Betty Hedgepeth (Floyd); brothers, Sherman Pippins Jr. (Mary Jane) and Richard Pippins (Brenda); along with numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins who will cherish his memory.

A funeral service to celebrate Shorty's life will be held on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, at 11:00 am at Parr Funeral Home & Crematory, officiated by Pastor Thomas Steele Carr. Following the service, Shorty will be laid to rest at Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens. Family and friends are invited to visitation on Monday, July 13, 2026, from 6:00 to 7:00 pm at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to Elevate Church of Windsor, Virginia, in Shorty's honor. His warmth, kindness, and unwavering spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
