Marvin Gilbert "Gil" Cowing, 61, of Suffolk, passed away on October 14, 2011. A native of Nansemond County, VA he is the son of Lucille Farrell Cowing and the late Marvin Gussie Cowing. He was also predeceased by an infant son, Christopher. Gil served his country in the Army Reserve and was assistant manager of the Dollar Tree in Smithfield. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter Day Saints, Franklin Ward. Gil studied Mechanical Engineering at Utah State University and was an avid fisherman.

He is survived by his wife, Teresa Anne Cowing; two step daughters and step son-in-law, Esther and Frankie Winslow and Jacqueline Doyle; one step son, Timothy Truitt; five grandchildren; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Theresa Williams, Lynne and Mark Jakobowski and Dawn and Lloyd Crocker; two nieces, Alexandra Jakobowski and Hannah Crocker and two nephews, Trent Savage and Kenley Savage.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, October 18, 2011 at Parr Funeral Home and Crematory, 3515 Robs Drive, Suffolk, at 2:00 p.m. with Bishop James P. Council, III officiating. Burial will follow at Holly Lawn Cemetery.Friends may join the family at the funeral home on Monday evening from
