Marvin "Joe" Euris Hobbs, 86, of Zuni, VA passed away December 30, 2011. He was born in Gates County, NC the son of the late Lillian Blanchard Hobbs and Walter Euris Hobbs. He was predeceased by his sisters, Edith Herndon and Louise Holland; and brothers, Bernard, Wallace, and Pat Hobbs. Joe was a veteran having served in the merchant marine during WWII. He worked as a farmer and later went on to sell real estate for Century 21. He was a member of Tucker Swamp Baptist Church for 55 years and attended the Harrell West Sunday School Class. He was also a member of the Purdie Masonic Lodge #170 for 50 years; the Ivor Rescue Squad for 25 years, and the Zuni Hunt Club. He was an avid gardener and a friend to all who knew him.
Joe is survived by his wife of 62 years, Helen Johnson Hobbs; son and daughter-in-law, Gayle and Faye Hobbs of Zuni; grandchildren, Vicki L. Hobbs, Elizabeth M. Hobbs and husband, Josh Flora, and Heather H. Hobbs; sister and brother-in-law, Melba and Harry Musgrove of Chesapeake; sisters-in-law, Estelle Hobbs and Marie Hobbs; special caregiver and niece, Angela Stepp; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held Tuesday, January 3, 2012 at 2 p.m. at Tucker Swamp Baptist Church with Rev. Gene Primm and Rev. Steve Bradshaw officiating. Burial will be held at a later date at the church cemetery. Friends may join the family for a time of visitation Monday night from 7-8 p.m. at Parr Funeral Home & Crematory and other times at the residence.
