Obituary

Marion Riddick Byrd, 82, passed away on Friday, June 23, 2006, at DePaul Medical Center in Norfolk, Virginia. She was predeceased by her parents Willie E. and Maude Smith Riddick and a sister Grace Riddick Salmon.

Marion is survived by her husband of 53 years, James Rudolph Byrd, Sr.; her son, James Rudolph Byrd, Jr. and wife, Jeanne of Chesapeake; a step-granddaughter, Jennifer Hartley of Atlanta, Georgia; 2 sisters, Barbara Griffin of Suffolk and Betty Holland of Boca Raton, Florida; and 2 brothers, Jack Riddick and Charlie Riddick, both of Suffolk.

Marion Byrd lived her entire life in Suffolk. She was a member of Cypress Chapel Christian Church. Marion worked as a waitress at Simpson's Restaurant (now George's) on Holland Road for many years before retiring from her last job at Herb's Bar-B-Que.

The funeral service will be held Monday, June 26, 2006, at 3:00 p.m. at Parr Funeral Home, with Dr. Willis I. Dowling officiating. Burial will follow at Holly Lawn Cemetery.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, June 25, 2006, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., at Parr Funeral Home.

Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, Suffolk Chapter, 604 Constance Woods Drive, Suffolk, VA 23434.
