Marilyn Teresa Henderson, aged 64, passed away peacefully on April 30, 2026, in Suffolk, Virginia. Born on January 18, 1962, in Quantico, Virginia, she devoted her life to service, family, and faith.
Marilyn proudly served her country as a Technical Sergeant in the United States Air Force, retiring in 1998 after a distinguished career. Her dedication to her work and her country was a testament to her character and commitment.
A devoted member of the Tri-Cities Worship Center in Portsmouth, VA, Marilyn’s faith was a guiding force throughout her life. She found strength and community within her church family, leaving a lasting impact on those who knew her.
She is preceded in death by her beloved parents, Frederick Lewis Gardiner, Sr. and Carolyn Brownlee Gardiner, as well as her mother-in-law, Jean Margaret Henderson, and father-in-law, Walter Pire Henderson.
Marilyn is survived by her loving husband of 36 years, Ian Walter Henderson. Together, they raised a beautiful family, including her children: Jason Henderson (Sally), Scott Walterstein Henderson (Toni-anne), Richard Alexander Lopez, Shelley Ann Henderson Gibbs, Nathaniel Pire Henderson (Kara), and Jaimie Ross Henderson. Her legacy continues through her 13 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren, who brought immense joy to her life. She is also survived by her sister, Rita Celeste Gardiner Brown (Milton), and her brother, Frederick L. Gardiner Jr. (Karen).
A funeral service will be held on Monday, June 1, 2026, at 11 a.m. at Parr Funeral Home & Crematory, with Elder Randall T. Brunson officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Albert G. Horton, Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to Tri-Cities Worship Center or The American Cancer Society, causes that were close to Marilyn’s heart.
