Marie Olivia Holmes, 71, of Suffolk, VA passed away December 29, 2010. She was born in Portsmouth, VA the daughter of the late Mable Heffron Dowson and John Joseph Dowson. She worked as the secretary and co-owner of Custom Fabricators. She was a member of Western Branch Community Church.

Marie is survived by her husband of 55 years, Richard Allen Holmes; sons and daughters-in-law, Richard Allen Holmes, Jr. and Beverly of Isle of Wight County, VA, Jim and Marsha Holmes of Isle of Wight County; daughter, Kathy Doerner of Suffolk, VA; grandchildren, Taylor and Dawson Holmes, Jack and Robert Doerner, Summer Cowan; sister, Grace Andrews of Middleburg, Fl; brother, Joseph Dowson of Portsmouth, VA.

Friends may join the family Saturday night from 6-7 p.m. at Parr Funeral Home & Crematory, 3515 Robs Dr., Suffolk, VA 23434 and other times at the residence. A graveside service will be held on Monday, January 3, 2011 at 11 a.m. at Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. A celebration of life service will be held following the graveside service at 2 p.m. at Western Branch Community Church with Rev. Jim Wall officiating.
