Baines Howell Neill
September 9, 1935 – March 8, 2024
Margie Ann Baines Howell Neill, 88, passed away on March 8, 2024. She was born in Suffolk, VA, to the late Effie Lee Duke and William Wilbur Baines. She is also predeceased by her sons, Donald Eugene Howell and Richard Dennis Howell; husbands, Eugene Francis Howell and Amos David Neill; and siblings, Virginia Mae Miller, Mickey Baines, Rudolph "Buddy" Baines, and Otis Lee Baines. As a young lady, Margie worked retail at Rose's downtown Suffolk. She met & married the love of her life Eugene 1953. Thru their years together, they raised a family. She taught her family the meaning of love and to always have compassion and help their neighbors around them. Margie spent time camping with her family on the weekends at Bells Island or fishing with Gene on the James River. After the loss of Gene and the children where adults a couple of days a week Margie helped her best friend Brenda Kinsey out as a hostess at Front Street restaurant where she also got to work with her daughter Donna. She spent time with her friends and formed the famous "Hardees Coffee Club" where she met Amos. Margie was also very well known as an avid early bird yard saler on Saturday mornings. Her happiness came during the Sunday dinners or the large holiday gatherings when she would get to spend time with the family and friends, she held so dear. Anytime you came into the Howell home, she always had sweet tea and something to eat waiting for you. Margie loved to share her belief in the Lord with others.
Margie is survived by her daughter, Donna Marie Mayer (Mark); sons, James William Howell (Melissa), Charles Landon Howell (Cynthia), and Steven Allen Howell (Elizabeth); grandchildren, Michelle Howell(Tommy), Daniel Outland, Jennifer Howell (Cord), Pamela Outland, Michael Outland, Charles Howell Jr.(Lisa), Tiffany Dean (Noah), Landon Howell (Ashley), Joshua Howell (Megan), Chelsea Kish (Kenny), Chris Howell, and Steven Howell (Theresa); and 15 Great Grandchildren. Much appreciation to her caregiver/friend Shena Freeman.
Margie's funeral service will be Wednesday, March 20, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at Parr Funeral Home & Crematory, 3515 Robs Drive, Suffolk, VA 23434 with Pastor John Hunter officiating. Burial will be at Cedar Hill Cemetery, Suffolk, VA. Visitation will be from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 19, 2024, at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Alzheimer's assoc. or Cancer society. Condolences may be registered online at www.parrfuneralhome.com.
