Obituary

Margaret Joyner Wells Gordon, 95 passed away on February 2, 2026, surrounded by her family. Margaret and her twin sister were born in Southampton County, Va. on April 2, 1930, to the late Leonard Alexander Joyner and Anna Elizabeth Britt Joyner.

She is also predeceased by her first husband, Mayo Buxton Wells, Sr. and her second husband Carrol Ray Gordon, brothers Leonard and Tom Joyner, sisters Louise Gordon, Eleanor Shea, Minnie Billups, and Mildred Wilcox, daughter and son- in- law JoAnn Wells Epps and Joseph Theodore Epps, Sr. and son Richard Allen Wells.

Margaret is survived by her two sons Diney Buxton Wells (Sue), Mayo Buxton Wells, Jr, (Cindy) and daughter-in-law Dianne Wells. Grandchildren, Deborah Epps Dashiell (Jerry), Joseph Theodore Epps, Jr, Carolyn Wells Lowe (Randy), Buxton Scott Wells (Zoe), Crystal Wells Taylor (Matthew), Michael Brandon Wells and John Buxton Wells (Amy).  Great Grandchildren, Shelbie Dashiell Puglio (Chad), Jerry Edwards Dashiell, III (Taylor), Anthony Lee Altman (Amanda), Logan Caylee Jones, Katelyn Wells Lee (Triston), Faith Elizabeth Altman, Clay Buxton Altman, Fisher Epps Dashiell, Liam Holcomb, Rowland Buxton Wells, Tristan Gauge Taylor and Regan Harper Taylor. Great - Great Grandchildren, Thomas Ashby Dashiell, Colton Triston Lee and Carter Michael Puglio. Special nieces and nephews include Len and JoAnn Joyner, Gail and Debbie Wilcox, Don Uptagraft, Wilma Slayton, Robert Wells and Nellie Mae Stephenson.

For many years Margaret worked tirelessly beside her husband Buxton on their farm in Ivor, raising their four children. She later worked for 15 years for the Isle of Wight school system in the cafeteria and drove the Mill Swamp/ Moonlight bus route. She also worked 12 years at VH Monette and the Smithfield Station, retiring in 1987.

Later in life Margaret enjoyed travelling, camping, babysitting her great grandchildren and riding on the back of her husband, Ray's motorcycle. She loved gardening, preserving her vegetables and crocheting. She was a member of both Mill Swamp and Tucker Swamp Churches singing in the choir and serving on various church committees.

Margaret brought joy and happiness to all who knew her, always sharing her vegetables and homemade food with others.  Margaret believed a pot of homemade soup could make anything better and often shared it with her loved ones.

In her final years she resided with her Granddaughter, Deborah, spending time with grandchildren and enjoying farm life.

A graveside memorial service will be held Wednesday, February 11, 2026 at 2 p.m. at Mill Swamp Baptist Church Cemetery.  Memorial donations may be made to the Purdie Masonic Lodge # 170 c/o Glen Little, 8100 Fire Tower Rd., Zuni, VA 23898.  Condolences may be registered online at www.parrfuneralhome.com.
