Margaret Kathleen "Peggy" Barnes passed away on February 22, 2014 surrounded by her family. She was predeceased by her husband of 41 years Herman E. Barnes, and Daughter-in-law Laura "Sissy" Barnes. She was a 1953 graduate of Woodrow Wilson H.S. in Portsmouth, VA. After retiring as a dental office administrator, Peggy and Herman relocated to Cumberland County VA. There she served on the volunteer rescue squad and later worked in the county Clerk's Office. She also served as a Dispatcher for the Sherriff's Department. She was a long time member of Berea Christian Church in Driver. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.


Peggy is survived by two sons, Doug Barnes and wife Kathy, and Ronnie Barnes of Suffolk; Sister Charlotte Sitzler and husband Bob of Kill Devil Hills, NC. ; three grandchildren, Sallie Barnes, Joshua Barnes, and Jordan Epperly; and nieces & nephews Tommy, Dee, Susan, Robin, Sam, Robbie, and Jimmie. The family would like to acknowledge her sister Charlotte for her love and support throughout her illness.

A graveside service will be held at Olive Branch Cemetery Feb. 26, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Joe Newman officiating. Condolences may be registered online at www.parrfuneralhome.com
