Maggie Swetits
Maldonado
December 12, 1969 – July 16, 2021
Margaret "Maggie" Swetits Maldonado, age 51, died surrounded by her family on Friday, July 16, 2021 at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer.
Maggie was born December 12, 1969 in Hellertown, PA but moved to Virginia with her family in 1971. She grew up in Norfolk and Virginia Beach, spent her married life in Portsmouth, and recently relocated to Suffolk with her husband David and three fur babies: Laila, Petey, and Elliott. She was the medical transcription team leader for Atlantic Orthopaedic Specialists for 19 years. Prior to that, she was a court reporter, working in courtrooms throughout the Hampton Roads area.
Maggie was a witty, loving, and compassionate person who lived joyously and laughed loudly. She loved children and animals, and was fiercely protective of both. She was an avid reader, vegetarian, and amazing cook; she was meticulous about her appearance but was just as comfortable camping and riding her ATV through waist-high mud with her family and T.D.A.W. crew.
Maggie lives on in the memories of her husband, David Maldonado (Suffolk, VA); stepson David Maldonado, Jr. (Tampa, FL); stepdaughter Alexis Maldonado and step-grandson Grayson Heggen (Virginia Beach, VA); father John Swetits and stepmother Ann Swetits (Virginia Beach, VA); half-brother Clark Campbell and wife Leslie Campbell (Chesapeake, VA); sister Mary Swetits and niece Jennifer Swetits (Norfolk, VA); brother Rob Swetits (Newport News, VA); stepbrother Christopher Henry (Chesapeake, VA); stepbrother Patrick Henry and wife Tina Balfe-Henry (Virginia Beach, VA); mother-in-law Doreene Gross and husband Brian Gross (Suffolk, VA); father-in-law William Maldonado and wife Christine Maldonado (Virginia Beach, VA); sister-in-law Jennifer Napier, husband Justin Napier, nieces Gabrielle Alvarez and Lilliann Napier, and nephew Wyatt Napier (Carrsville, VA); brother-in-law Thomas Blei (Virginia Beach, VA); aunt Patricia Brusko (Clifton, NJ); uncle Robert Swetits, aunt Debra Swetits (Passaic, NJ), cousin Matthew Swetits and wife Deana Swetits (Rutherford, NJ), and cousin Ryan Swetits (Passaic, NJ); and countless extended family, friends, and colleagues.
The family will honor Maggie's wishes and will not hold a public memorial or funeral service.
