Mabel Joe Campbell Bates, 76, passed away surrounded by her loving family July 29, 2024.  She was born in Norfolk, VA the daughter of the late Vernie Marshall Campbell and Louvenia Knapp Campbell.  She was a retired courier and member of the Methodist faith.

Mabel is survived by her husband of almost 34 years, Howard "Tubbs" Sullivan Bates; daughter, Darlene Long; granddaughter, Alyson Laporta (John); great granddaughter, Hayden Jane Laporta; and best friend, Cathy Lamb.

A graveside service will be held Friday, August 23, 2024 at 2 p.m. at Albert G. Horton, Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery with Rev. Michael D. Halley officiating.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Oaks Veterinary for Isle of Wight Shelter Matching Funds Account or Ivor Veterinary for the Isle of Wight Shelter.
