Lynn Fowler Hartwell, 63, of Suffolk, Virginia, died Saturday, April 27 ^th after a nine-year battle with ovarian cancer. She is survived by her devoted husband of 43 years, Dan Hartwell; four children of whom she was immensely proud, Theresa Hartwell Cruz and husband of Ohio, Drew Hartwell and wife of South Carolina, Alida Hartwell Farlaino of Utah, and Sarah Hartwell of Texas; five precious grandchildren; and her brother, John Fowler of Alabama.

Born in St. John, New Brunswick, she moved to Mobile, Alabama at 15 years old, graduating from Murphy High School and attending the University of South Alabama (including a semester in France), majoring in History.

Lynn knew she was blessed and enjoyed her life. As a Navy wife and mother, her travels included moving with her family a dozen times while raising her children in Germany, Japan, Hawaii, Virginia, Washington, DC, Florida, and Texas. From Brisbane to Venice to Lillehammer to Salzburg to Paris to whatever opportunity arose, she loved to travel with her family. Quick to learn languages, she spoke French and German and taught English at a Japanese school while living in Yokosuka. And with those travels, she could always find the best places to shop and the treasures to find!

An avid sewing and crocheting enthusiast, she was always making quilts, shawls, clothes, afghans, Halloween costumes, and whatever else was possible with a needle and thread. She donated numerous quilts and shawls to charities, family, and friends.

And lastly, anyone who knew Lynn knew she had a keen sense of humor ("Let me know if I'm getting to you and I'll quit" was one of her favourite sayings) and always knew how to cut through the bull and tell things like they were. She was a true, loyal friend and advocate for her family and friends.

A private lakeside memorial service will be held with immediate family. Having "rescued" dogs and cats her entire life, Lynn requested any memorials go to your local SPCA.
