Luther Edward Hyatt, Sr., 78, of Suffolk, VA passed away February 29, 2012. He was born in Gates County, NC the son of the late Lessie Lethe Cooper Hyatt and Martin Luther Hyatt. He was a United States Army veteran. During that time he was a member of the 8457 Police Company. Luther later went on to work and retire after 34 years from the Norfolk Naval Shipyard as a Supervisor. He was a member of Bethlehem Christian Church and the AMF Senior Bowling League.
Luther is survived by his wife of 51 years, Mary Frances Gray Hyatt; daughter and son-in-law, Linda H. and Bill Pope of Suffolk; sons and daughters-in-law, Luther E. "Ed" Hyatt, Jr. and Terry of Gates Co., NC, Kenneth M. and Alice Hyatt of Severn, NC, and James R. Hyatt of Stoneville, NC; grandchildren, Joshua and Jordan Hyatt, Kendall and Sam Hyatt, Ethan and Evan Pope; 2 nieces.
A funeral service will be held Sunday, March 4, 2012 at 2 p.m. at Parr Funeral Home & Crematory, 3515 Robs Dr., Suffolk, VA with Rev. Allen Lancaster officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Holly Lawn Cemetery. Friends may join the family Saturday night from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home and other times at the residence.
