Lucy Amelia Muse, 5 months old, whose family was of Franklin, Virginia, passed away at 9:00 AM on Thanksgiving morning in the arms of her mother and father after a long battle with her illness. Lucy was born at Sentara's Norfolk General Hospital but spent her 159 days fighting for her life in the NICU at the Children's Hospital of the Kings Daughters in Norfolk, Virginia. Lucy was not given much time, but every second of her short life was an immeasurable blessing to her family and all who came to know her. The name Lucy means, "light." No name could be more fitting for this vibrant little girl, for she was a light in the darkness. As her favorite nurse once said, "Thank you, Lucy, for your inspiration, for teaching us to never give up hope, and for showing us that there is always more to learn. You are loved."
Lucy is survived by her parents, Kevin and Kristi Muse; her siblings, Natali and Nicholas Muse; her maternal grandparents, David and Jodie Shantz; her paternal grandparents, William and Virginia Muse; her maternal great grandmothers, Harriet Macinski and Eva Martha Shantz; her Aunts and Uncles, David and Kacie Meyers and Michael and Stacy Shantz; and her cousins, Benjamin, Isabelle, and Jack Shantz, as well as numerous members of her extended family.
Lucy's parents would like to thank her NICU nurses, especially her primary nurses, Adam, Terri, Taylor, Nikki, and Elena, for their commitment and kindness to their family and the quality of care given to their daughter.
A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, November 30, 2016 at 3:00p.m. in Albert G. Horton Jr. Veteran Cemetery, 5310 Milners Rd., Suffolk, Virginia, 23434, with Father Kevin O'Brien officiating. For those unable to attend, condolences may be registered online at www.parrfuneralhome.com.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made in Lucy's name to the Children's Hospital of the King's Daughters at CHKD.org/support-us/donate.
