Lucia "Lucy" P. Bastinelli, 89, formerly of Portsmouth, VA went home to be with the Lord on March 26, 2009, "Her children arise up, and call her blessed" (Proverbs 31:28). She was a native of Newport, Rhode Island, born the daughter of the late Leonardo and Theresa Pignatelli. She was predeceased by her husband, Alfred Bastinelli, Sr. Lucy retired after 20 years as a School Crossing Guard for the Portsmouth Police Department. She was a member of Open Door Church and a former member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Bower's Hill.

Lucy is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Ben Chappell of Suffolk, VA; sons and daughters-in-law, Al Bastinelli, Jr. and Sue of Honey Grove, TX, Peter and Susan Bastinelli of Norfolk, VA; 11 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; sister, Alexandrina Impellitteri of Middletown, RI; numerous sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held Monday, March 30, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. at Parr Funeral Home & Crematory, 3515 Robs Dr., Suffolk, VA with the Rev. Tony Peaks and the Rev. Dr. Jim Brown officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. Friends may join the family Sunday afternoon from 4-5 p.m. at the funeral home and other times at the Chappell residence.
