Lowell Gene Perry, 76, of Suffolk, VA passed away July 26, 2013. He was born in Bertie County, NC to the late Allie W. and Marvin Perry. He is also predeceased by his brother, Troy Perry. Gene retired from the Suffolk Health Department. He was a member of Bethany Baptist Church, Knights of Pythias, and the Woodmen of the World. He was well known as an avid checker player.

Gene is survived by his wife of 27 years, Shirley J. Perry; daughter, Lennette Perry Ventura; step children, Sharon Joyner, Monica Keel, and J.W. Johnson; 7 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; and sister, Edith Williams.

A funeral service will be held Tuesday, July 30, 2013 at 11 a.m. at Bethany Baptist Church, 736 Bethany Church Road, Colerain, North Carolina 27924, with Rev. Tommy Tripp officiating. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery. Visitation will be held Monday evening from 7 to 8 p.m. at Parr Funeral Home & Crematory, 3515 Robs Dr., Suffolk, VA 23434.
