Louise Aswell Hankins, 89, of Virginia Beach, went to be with the Lord and join her son and family in Heaven, early Friday morning, September 10, 2010. She was born in the Cypress Chapel area of Nansemond County, the daughter of the late Susie Jones Aswell and Augustus Grimm Aswell.
Louise retired from Gladstone Auction Company in Norfolk after many years of service. She was blessed to have enjoyed an exciting life that included travel to numerous countries all over the world. Louise loved God, her church, family and friends, all of whom completed her life. She possessed a charm, wit and spirit uniquely her own. Louise will always be missed, never forgotten and forever loved.
Louise was predeceased by her son, Louie Herbert Hankins, Jr., and her brothers and sisters, Blanche, Mary, Daniel Vernon, Lilly Mae, Willie Thomas, Hattie, Margaret and Charlie. Left to cherish her memory is her daughter-in-law, Libby Hankins of Vienna, VA, who was always there for her with a helping hand; grandson, Louie H. Hankins, III, of Arlington, Va; granddaughter, Elizabeth T. Wilson and husband Danny of Bluffton, SC; nephew, Robert Aswell and wife Sue of Reidsville, NC; and nieces, Barbara Muffie of Erie, PA; Elizabeth Callis of Harrisville, NC; and Rebecca Vaughan of Ahoskie, NC; along with many, loving church friends from Pembroke Manor United Church of Christ where she was a dedicated, active member for over 30 years. All of whom will miss Louise's humor and courageous spirit.
The Hankins family would like to extend a special thank you to those who cared for Louise during the last few years. Her long-time friend and attorney, Bruce Mills, and friends, Kim Pate and Judy Mabry, will be remembered for their love and care, patience and great service to Louise. We would also like to extend our gratitude to Carol and Joe and the entire staff at First Colonial Inn.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held Saturday, September 18, 2010 at 1 p.m. at Pembroke Manor United Church of Christ, 600 Independence Blvd., Va. Beach, VA. Interment will be at Cypress Chapel Christian Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Pembroke Manor United Church of Christ. Parr Funeral Home & Crematory is serving the family. Condolences may be registered online at www.parrfuneralhome.com.
