Lou Ellen Upton Nurney, 81, passed away November 6, 2017.  She was born in Pitt County, NC the daughter of the late William Lee Upton and Bertha Strickland Upton. She was predeceased by her husband, Arthur Lee Nurney, Sr.  She worked as a peanut grader for the State of Virginia and also worked as a greeter at Wal-Mart.

Lou Ellen is survived by her daughter, Linda N. Lathrop; son and daughter-in-law, Arthur Lee Nurney, Jr. (Teresa); grandchildren, Crystal Jones (Michael, Jr.), Jonathan Lathrop (Nicole), Gary Groves (Emily), Raymond Nurney; great grandchildren, Michael Jones, III, Allayna Jones, Mark and Mason Lathrop, and Regen Middleton; sister, Evelyn Nichols; brother and sister-in-law, Gregory and Alice Upton; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held Friday, November 10, 2017 at 2 p.m. at Windsor Cemetery with Rev. Tim Rawls officiating.  Friends may join the family Thursday night for a visitation from 7-8 p.m. at Parr Funeral Home & Crematory.  Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.  Condolences may be registered online at www.parrfuneralhome.com.
