Lois Lowe
Hatfield
April 2, 1943 – November 6, 2025
Lois Lowe Hatfield, 82, passed away peacefully in her sleep in the early hours of November 6, 2025, following a battle with dementia and lung cancer. She was born in Hertford Co, N.C. to the late Dora Piland and Richard Blunt Lowe. She is also predeceased by her husband Henry R. Hatfield, and siblings Nancy Wilkins, Randolph Lowe, and Doris Umphlette.
Lois started her working life as a hairdresser then switched careers to clerical work with the City of Suffolk Social Services Department before retiring. A voracious reader, she rarely met a historical romance book she didn't like, and her children found them throughout the house despite her best efforts to hide them. She loved to garden and cook and would patiently bake alongside her children when they were young and made family dinners large productions in recent years. She also loved to pile everyone into the car to look at Christmas lights during the holidays.
Lois loved the beach, spending as much time as she could at Kitty Hawk when she was younger and at Cherry Grove in North Myrtle Beach on family vacations. In her later years, she traveled the country with her sister-in-law Yvonne Lowe and talked nonstop about parts of the country they got to see, spanning from San Francisco to the Kennedy Space Center. She had a great relationship with her TV, with her favorite shows being true crime, Gilmore Girls, and any Hallmark movie. She was a spitfire who loved fiercely but would let you know in a heartbeat when you stepped out of line.
Lois is survived by her daughter, Erin Hatfield; son, Douglas Hatfield; grandchildren, Connor and Taylor Hatfield; sister, Alice Perry; and brother, Alton Lowe.
