Obituary

Lillie Mae Smith, 83, of Suffolk, went home to be with the Lord on March 16, 2009. A native of Buckhorn, VA she was the daughter of the late Mills and Emma McClenny. She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 61 years, Luther W. (Jerry) Smith; sisters, Daisy, Elsie, Nellie Dean; and brothers, Lonnie and Wallace.

Lillie loved spending time with her family, cooking, gardening, crocheting and home decorating. She was a member of Wilroy Baptist Church. She enjoyed teaching Sunday School and felt her calling to be leading the young people of her church to the message of God's love. Her greatest joy was being the volunteer Librarian for Suffolk Christian School. She also volunteered at Obici Hospital.

Lillie is survived and honored by her three children and foster son, Nancy LaChance and husband, P.J. of Williamsburg, VA, Rev. Luther W. Smith and wife Martha missionary to Papua New Guinea, Mark T. Smith and wife Mary of Suffolk, VA; James Wilkins and wife Jan of Milwaukee, WI; sisters, Emily Umphlette and Jane Brown of Buckhorn, VA; grandchildren, Cherie Arscott, Warren Smith, Mark S. Smith, Joanna Bolton, Paul Smith, Luke Smith, Brandy Mumford, and Ryan Smith; and 15 beautiful great grandchildren.

The family would like to say a special "thank you" to Lillie's best friend, Shirley Bryant, of Suffolk for her devotion, love, and constant care.

A celebration of life service will be held Saturday, March 21, 2009 at 2 p.m. at Parr Funeral Home & Crematory, 3515 Robs Dr., Suffolk, VA with Rev. Mark T. Habecker officiating. Burial will follow at Holly Lawn Cemetery. Friends may join the family for a time of visitation Friday night from 7-8 p.m. at the funeral home and other times at the residence of her son, Mark T. Smith, 3404 Deer Path Rd., Suffolk, VA. Condolences may be registered online at www.parrfuneralhome.com.
