Leslie Carter Evans, 79, of Suffolk passed away on September 19, 2008. A native of Gates County, NC he was the son of the late Jesse R. Evans and Fruzie Eure Evans. He was also prdeceased by his wife of 59 years, Hazel Parker Evans. Carter retired after 25 years as Produce Manager at Belo's Supermarket. He was a 50 year member of: Suffolk Masonic Lodge, #30, Mt. Nebo Royal Arch Chapter; Khedive Shriners; Suffolk Shriner's Club; Sinai #18 of the Order of the Eastern Star where he served 18 times as Worthy Patron. He was a member of Bethlehem Christian Church.

Carter is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Thomas C. and Joan G. Evans of Suffolk, VA; a step-granddaughter, Carla J. Griggs of Mt. Olive, NC; two sisters Juliett E. Williams of Winton, NC and Gloria E. Nichols of Ahoskie, NC; two brothers, Clinton Evans of Murfreesboro, NC and Ronald Evans of Siler City, NC.

A funeral service with Eastern Star rites will be held on Sunday, September 21, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at Parr Funeral Home and Crematory, 3515 Robs Drive, Suffolk with Rev. Jonathan Palmer officiating. Burial with Masonic rites will follow at Holly Lawn Cemetery. Friends may join the family at the funeral home on Saturday from 7:00 – 8:00 p.m. for visitation and at other times at 4868 Godwin Boulevard, Suffolk.
