Leon Ambrose Blount, Jr., 86, of Smithfield, VA passed away November 30, 2012. He was born in Nash County, NC the son of the late Kate Rogers Blount Hopkins and Leon Ambrose Blount, Sr. He was also predeceased by his step father, Harry W. Hopkins; sisters, Louise Blount, Jean Merriel Blount, and Alice Hopkins Mosley; brother, Harry W. Hopkins, Jr.; great grandson, Joseph Leon Nicosia, Jr. Leon was a United States Navy veteran having served during World War II. He later went on to retire after 40 years from NASA as a construction officer. He was a member of Bethany United Methodist Church where he was a trustee for over 30 years and was a member of the Friendship Class.

Leon is survived by his wife of 42 years, Mary E. Blount; daughters, Jean M. Blount, Stephanie J. Stockum and husband, Bob; son, Timothy W. Blount and wife, Cathy; grandchildren, Leon Nicosia, Bonnie Nicosia King, RC Stockum, and Taylor Blount; great grandchildren, Samantha King and Mary Jane Nicosia; sisters, Thelma Pankoke, Kathryn Diggs and husband, Michael; special cousin, Rev. Jack Davis; eleven nieces and nephews; special companions, Angel and Joy "Daddy's Girls."

A funeral service will be held Sunday, December 2, 2012 at 2 p.m. at Bethany United Methodist Church with Rev. Lowell Petry and Rev. Tommy Reynolds officiating. Burial will follow in the Bethany cemetery. Friends may join the family other times at the residence.
