Lee Patricia Downey (née LeVasseur), 66, of Chesapeake, Virginia, passed away on Friday, July 10, 2026. She was born on October 7, 1959 in Waterbury, Connecticut to the late Delsie Lawrence LeVasseur, Sr. and Grace Lynch LeVasseur. Her older brother, Delsie LeVasseur, Jr., also predeceased her. An alumna of Watertown High School, Connecticut and Western Connecticut State University, Lee followed her passion to aid others and furthered her education by obtaining a Nursing degree. She worked for decades as a Licensed Practical Nurse specializing in elder care, but she found her life’s truest purpose in becoming Nana to her beloved grandchildren. She was also a lover of musicals, travel, Betty Boop, and all things Christmas-related.

She is survived by her husband of 45 years, James Walter Downey; sons, Matthew James Downey (Catherine), Jason Michael Downey (Petia), and Ryan Lee Downey (Ashley); grandchildren, Summer, Lily, Owen, and Aiden Downey; sisters, Joyce Belcher and Ruth Bolduc; and many nieces, nephews, and friends who were blessed to know her compassionate heart.

Lee’s graveside service will be held at Albert G. Horton, Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery on Thursday, August 20, 2026 at 11:00 a.m.
