Laurice E. Parron, III, known as Larry to friends, Dad to his sons, and Granddad or Pop to his grandkids and great grandkids, passed away early on August 3, 2026 in Summerville, SC surrounded by family. After a hard battle with melanoma, Dad was called home to meet his Savior.
Born July 16, 1946 to the late Laurice E. Parron Jr. and Barbara Layton Parron, Larry grew up mostly in Virginia, although spent some years travelling with his mom and dad while his dad worked for the US Department of the Navy. Larry served in the US Army, being stationed in Germany during the Vietnam Conflict. A graduate of Thomas Nelson Community College, Larry worked several places before working as a contractor at NASA. His tasks involved working on several important projects, including the heat shield for the first space shuttle. After retiring from SDC, Larry worked at Chick-fil-A as a delivery driver until retiring for good.
Larry was a life-long college and NFL football fan. He was an avid fan of the Washington Redskins/Commanders, Notre Dame Fighting Irish, and Virginia Cavaliers. He loved movies, going to the beach, and spending quality time with his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Larry loved Jesus and his church family. When he was able, he was incredibly generous and would do anything he could to help others. This was especially true of his church family. He was led to the Lord by his father-in-law, Ward Robinson, and his church family became very important to him later in life. He loved attending church, and when he could no longer go, he would watch online every Sunday morning.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents; and his sister, Sandy. He is survived by his sons, Matt (Cary) and Rich (Kelley); grandchildren, Adriana, Katie, Blake, Jordyn, Colin, Helen, Audra, and Beatrice; and eight great grandchildren.
A celebration of life service will be held at Great Fork Baptist Church, 180 Great Fork Road, Suffolk, Virginia 23438 on Saturday, October 24, 2026 at 11:00 am.
