Larry Wayne
Raiford
August 31, 1956 – May 5, 2018
Larry Wayne Raiford, 61, completed his life journey and returned home to be with the Lord on May 5, 2018.
A native of Hampton, Larry was a resident of Smithfield for 28 years prior to returning home to his birthplace, Suffolk. He retired as an Area Lead- CM Reliability Maintenance Group, from Philip Morris after a dedicated 29 years of service while making life-long friendships and memories along the way. He was a 1978 graduate of The Apprentice School and machinist by trade who had a tool and an innovative technique for all things requiring a mend. He was an avid gun connoisseur but most passionate about aeronautical history and demonstrations. He attended Bethlehem Christian Church under the guidance of Pastor Matt Winters. His favorite pastimes were trips to Kill Devil Hills for seafood and dune buggies, hunting, fishing, conquering crossword puzzles, late night reading, restoration of his 1966 Buick LeSabre, and spending time with family and friends.
Larry shared 38 years of marriage to his best friend; a rarity of love that was unconditional, timeless, and eternal, which grew greater in the depths of their hearts and soul with every moment shared. Their enduring love was the means to overcome every health obstacle to allow for triumph. Larry's display of love and devotion was seen through his daughter's eyes with every adventure and moment of guidance. He was their anchor in the storm, and their blue skies upon storms passing.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Janice Raiford Behrens; and parents, Carl and Mildred Raiford.
Survivors include his wife, Penny Raiford, of Suffolk, his daughters, Lindsey Warnick and husband, Tim, of Newport News, and Tori Raiford, of North Chesterfield; his brother David and wife Linda, of Hampton; numerous other extended devoted family members; and beloved cat, Toby.
A graveside service will be conducted at 2:00 P.M., Thursday, May 10, 2018 at Holly Lawn Cemetery with Pastor Matt Winters officiating. The family welcomes friends for further time of fellowship and refreshments directly following the service at the Raiford residence in Suffolk. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project at www.woundedwarriorproject.org.
