Obituary

Judith (Judy) Kathryn Chalot Schubert died on March 25, 2025, at the age of 76 in Suffolk, Virginia where she had lived for the last 14 years.  She was born in Yonkers, New York on June 13, 1948, to Kathryn Fabian (Flynn) Chalot and John A. Chalot and was raised in Irvington, New York.

After teaching most grade levels in the public school system for thirty-three years in several states, Judy retired from the Moreno Valley Unified School District in southern California in 2009.  She also taught for DoDDs (Department of Defense Dependent Schools) in Stuttgart, Germany.  She was employed as the Reading Improvement Specialist at Stuttgart American High School utilizing her master's degree in reading.

Judy enjoyed being a member of several organizations and showcased her leadership qualities in many of them.  She was a brownie and girl scout leader; member of AAUW (Am. Assoc. of University Women); Sunday school teacher; Treasurer of the Children's School of Laurel, MD; and Treasurer of the Stuttgart American Wandering Club in Stuttgart, Germany.  Judy was extremely involved with the American Cancer Society in several different capacities to include selling daffodils to businesses, being a member of Relay for Life, and volunteering to drive cancer patients to medical appointments.  Over the years volunteer tutoring reading and math were part of her agenda.

Living in Germany for four years afforded Judy the opportunity to follow one of her passions –traveling.  She and her military husband, Bill, and their children spent each weekend and all school holidays exploring the European continent.  Travel continued after Bill's Army retirement to include most U.S. states and every continent except Antarctica.

Judy was a people person putting the needs of others above her own.  She was a very sincere, giving, and helpful person.  She was always there for her students, family, and friends.  Her passion and fondness for children, family, and travel were reflected in the life she spent raising and teaching children and traveling the world.

Judy is survived by her husband of 42 years, William A. Schubert; daughter Kathryn C. Bunn, sons Walter E. Bunn IV, Ernest M. Schubert (Pam), and Joel B. Schubert (Lisa); grandchildren Jason M., Sarah N., and Keegan R. Schubert; sister Andrea M. Leonzo and sister-in-law Carol M. Thall; nephews Alan J. Gabor (Jennifer), Bobby C. Leonzo (Michelle), Richard E. Gabor, and Aaron E. Thall; nieces Robyn G. Reynolds (Joe), and Michele J. Diedrich (Mark); and five great-nieces and nephews – Callie G. and Joey R. Reynolds, Bobby J. Leonzo, Rocco Leonzo and Leola S. Gabor.  Judy was predeceased by her sister-in-law Sandra R. Gabor.
