Obituary

Juanita Nixon Daughtrey, 91. passed away September 30, 2013. Born in Danville, VA, she was the daughter of the late Simeon J. Nixon, Sr. and Bessie Owen Nixon. She was predeceased by her husband Hugh T. Daughtrey Sr. and her brother S. Judson Nixon, Jr. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law H. Tazewell Daughtrey Jr. and Marie of Lynchburg; by her daughter Nita D. Leggett of Suffolk; and by her daughter and son-in-law Bethanne D. Bradshaw and Loyd III (Brad) of Suffolk; six grandchildren, Emily Loomer, Mollie Poland, Marianne Daughtrey, Marlene Colucci, Rachel Bradshaw and Matthew Bradshaw; and two great-grandchildren, Oliver Poland and Norah Poland.

A 1940 graduate of Suffolk High School, she was credit union manager at Lipton Tea for 18 years and at Obici Hospital for 12 years. As an active member of First Baptist Church (North Main St.), she served as a Sunday School teacher, a Women's Missionary Union leader, and a church librarian. She volunteered for several years with the Southeastern Correctional Ministry, helping to grade inmates' Bible course lessons. She was a charter member of the Suffolk chapter of Credit Professionals International. She was an avid reader, enjoyed crocheting, and kept active playing cards with friends.

Visitation will be held at 1 p.m., followed by a funeral service at 2 p.m. Saturday, October 5 at Parr Funeral Home with the Dr. Thurman Hayes Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in Holly Lawn Cemetery. Condolences may be registered online at www.parrfuneralhome.com.
