Joseph Dillard Whitfield Sr., 73, died April 18, 2006. He was a native of Southampton County, Virginia, and retired from the Norfolk Naval Shipyard. He was a U.S. Army veteran and the son of the late Clara Drake Whitfield and Samuel Whitfield. He was also predeceased by his daughter, Kathy Whitfield Holland. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Mildred Gayle Whitfield; daughters, Milly Gayle Whitfield Adair of Kill Devil Hills, Debbie W. Pociluyko and Linda W. Duke, both of Richmond; a son, J.D. Whitfield Jr. of Chesapeake; and numerous grandchildren. A graveside service will be held Monday at 2 p.m. in Poplar Spring Cemetery, Franklin, Va., by the Rev. Duane Partin and assisted by the Rev.
