Joseph Milton "Doodlebug" Taylor, Sr., 73, died October 7, 2014 at his home in Suffolk, VA. He was preceded in death by his parents Basil and Grace Taylor of Conway, NC and two brothers, Jeffrey Taylor of Pendleton, NC and Basil Melvin Taylor. He was an U.S. Air Force veteran and a member of Western Branch Baptist Church, where he served on various committees and served as Sunday School Superintendent and choir member.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Kathleen Burgess Taylor of their home in the Lake Prince area of Suffolk; one daughter, Amy Hatfield and her fiancé, Tom Blyth; one son, Joseph M. Taylor, Jr., and his wife, Kimberly, of Suffolk; five grandchildren, Curtis Ryan Taylor, April Michelle Taylor, Jennifer Lynn Taylor, and Taylor Marie Hatfield, and Connor Douglas Hatfield; five great grandchildren, Logan Taylor, Abigail Davis, and Thomas Williams, Alley Stallings and Jordan Taylor; sister-in-law, Peggy Taylor; one nephew, Kelly Taylor and wife, Elizabeth; and one niece, Samantha Taylor all of Pendleton, NC.

A graveside funeral service with military honors will be held Friday, October 10, 2014 at 10 a.m. at Albert G. Horton, Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery, 5310 Milners Rd., Suffolk, VA 23434, with Rev. Tommy Reynolds officiating. Visitation will be held Thursday evening from 7 to 8 p.m. at Parr Funeral Home and Crematory, 3515 Robs Dr., Suffolk, VA 23434.
