Joseph "Josie" Stringfield Nurney, 95, of Smithfield, VA passed away February 19, 2009. She was born in Isle of Wight County, VA the daughter of the late Lillie G. and James W. Stringfield, Sr. She was also predeceased by her first husband, Brandford Stanley, Sr. and second husband, Jack R. Nurney. Josie operated a country store which is currently Darden's Country Store. She was a member of Central Hill Baptist Church and the Suffolk Moose Lodge.

Josie is survived by her daughter, Louise Peden of Windsor, VA; sons, Brandford Stanley, Jr. of Smithfield, VA, John Milton Stanley of Ft. Payne, AL, and Shelton Stanley of Smithfield, VA; 10 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; and 2 great great grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held Saturday, February 21, 2009 at 2 p.m. at Mill Swamp Baptist Church cemetery with her grandson, Gary Stanley officiating.
