Joseph Howard Mizell,89, formerly of Suffolk, VA passed away June 10, 2006.

He was a native of Suffolk, VA and raised in Portsmouth where he graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School.

Howard retired after 22 years as chief operator for the Waste Water Treatment Plant. He then went on to work for 9 years at Western Tidewater Mental Health. He was also a former Fireman for the City of Suffolk and was a past president of the Suffolk Volunteer Fire Department. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Suffolk, VA. He was a longtime member of AARP and the Travelers Protective Association.

He was the widower of Winifred Holland Mizell. He was the son of the late, James Benjamin Mizell and Rebecca Eure Mizell.

He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Glenda M. and Richard Daughtrey of Smithfield, VA, granddaughter and husband, Beth D. and Marty Mackes of Purcellville, VA, grandson and wife, Allen and Kristen Daughtrey of Staunton, VA, great granddaughter, Grace Caroline Daughtrey, great grandson, Alexander James Daughtrey

Friends may join the family Monday night at Parr Funeral Home from 7-8:30 p.m. and other times at the home of Glenda and Richard Daughtrey, Smithfield, VA. A Funeral Service will be held, Tuesday, June 13, 2006, at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home by Rev. Charles W. Thompson with burial at Holly Lawn Cemetery, Suffolk, VA.

The family would like to thank all the nurses and staff of Magnolia Manor that cared so lovingly for Howard during his three years there. Howard truly treasured the friends that he made there.
