Joseph Otto Brickhouse, 79, formerly of Chesapeake, VA passed away May 17, 2007. He was born in Hickory, Va. the son of the late Benjamin F. Brickhouse and Maggie Sykes Brickhouse. He was a United States Navy veteran after serving during the Korean War. Joseph later went on to retire after 40 years as an oiler from the Ford Motor Company.
Joseph was a member of Raleigh Heights Baptist Church of Chesapeake where he served as a deacon and was a member of the Friendship Bible Class. He was a former Boy Scout Leader of two troops. During his time he won the Wood Badge Award and was a member of the Order of the Arrow. He was also a member of the Helpful Club and past president of the First Senior Citizens of Chesapeake.
He is predeceased by his wife of over 50 years, Eloise Hope Spann Brickhouse; a son, Rickey Lee Brickhouse; sister, Agnes D. Brickhouse; and 2 brothers, Calvin Brickhouse and Charlie Dunford.
Joseph is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, Joseph Wayne and Josephine G. Brickhouse of Chesapeake, VA, Robert Seals and Charlene S. Brickhouse of Suffolk, VA, and Alecia Brickhouse of Cherryville, NC; 5 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; and 2 sisters and brother-in-law, Mary Ferrari of Chesapeake, VA, and Merle and Harvey Manning of Front Royal, VA.
A funeral service will be held Tuesday, May 22, 2007 at 11 a.m. at Raleigh Heights Baptist Church with Rev. Jim Thompson and Rev. Henry Napier officiating. Burial will follow at Rosewood Memorial Park with Military Honors. Friends may join the family Monday night from 7-8 p.m. at Parr Funeral Home, Suffolk, VA and other times at the residence of Robert and Charlene Brickhouse, 4367 Lake Prince Dr., Suffolk, VA 23434.
