Johnnie Wilson Abbott, Sr. (Monk), 71, passed away October 15, 2014. Monk was born in Suffolk, Virginia to the late Johnnie M. and Minnie F. Abbott. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Betty A. Hobbs.
Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of 52 years, Joan R. Abbott; his children, Johnnie W. Abbott (Terri), Sherry A. Outland (John), Herbie P. Abbott (Darlene) and Kim A. Gomer (Lance); 8 grandchildren, Amber (Missy), Joan (Joanie), Sarah (Bugger), Cameron (Button), Herbie (Macon), Johnnie (J.W.), Garrett (Shotgun) and Darlena; sister and brother-in-law Patty A. Harrington (Jimmy); and brother-in-law and sister-in-law Richard and Linda Rodgers; 5 great grandchildren, Kaiyah, Brayden (Stump), Maverick (Roper), Alivia and Jace (Spud).
Monk loved his family and especially the grandchildren and great grandchildren. He offered them valuable advice and was an excellent role model. He had a passion and love for his horses (Baby and Freckles) and enjoyed his trail rides with his close and dear friends and enjoyed spending time with his hunting and fishing buddies. Monk never met a stranger.
A funeral service will be held Saturday, October 18, 2014 at 1:00 pm at Parr Funeral Home & Crematory, 3515 Robs Drive, Suffolk, VA 23434 with Rev. Tony Peaks officiating. Interment will follow at Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held from 11:00-1:00 prior to the service and other times at the residence.
