John David Nurney, Sr., 92, passed away July 31, 2013. He was born in Isle of Wight County, VA the son of the late Jack Nurney and Virginia Gray Nurney. He was a U.S. Army veteran having served during WWII. John worked as farmer his entire life. He was a member of Central Hill Baptist Church and the Young Adult Men's Bible Class.

John is survived by his wife of 66 years, Annie Elliott Nurney; daughters and sons-in-law, Joanne and Billy Cofer, Sue and Diney Wells, Brenda and Mark McDonald; son and daughter-in-law, John D. Nurney, Jr. and Teresa Nurney; grandchildren and their spouses, Teresa L. Girard (Mark), William Cofer, Jr. (Shelley), Heather Copeland (Chris), John D. Nurney, III, J. B. Wells (Amy), Cole McDonald, Mindy McDonald; 4 great grandchildren; sisters, Ethel N. Harris, Mildred Nurney, and Mary Jane Phippins; brother, Raleigh Ray Nurney; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held Saturday, August 3, 2013 at 2 p.m. at Central Hill Baptist Church with Rev. Roger D. Johnson officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in the church cemetery. Friends will have a chance for further time of fellowship following the service in the church fellowship hall.
