Obituary

John M. (Jack) Jennings, Jr.
Jack went to rest with the Lord on December 19, 2010. He was born on April 18, 1923 and lived a wonderful and fulfilling 87 years. While being blessed with a large family, Jack enjoyed a fulfilling military career in the Navy and Army retiring from the U.S. Army after serving in World War II, Korea, and post Korea. Jack was highly decorated, earning a Navy Cross, Silver Star, and Purple Hearts. This was followed by a long and rewarding career in many areas of business ownership.

He spent many years with the Army shooting in competition, becoming a Distinguished Rifleman and a member of the elite President's Hundred.

Jack was a dynamic personality who was cherished by all who knew him. He was active in Boy Scouts spending 75 years helping children and was awarded the Silver Beaver and Vigil Member. In his earlier years Jack spent time playing for the semi-pro football team, Chicago Cardinals. Voted "Man of the Year" and numerous other recognitions, he was heavily involved in local community organizations and political groups. He was an avid golfer and made many friends on the golf course. Jack loved the church and took a very active part in leadership and serving others in quiet and often unrecognized ways.

Jack is preceded in death by his brother, Harry E. Jennings, first wife, Ruth Caroline, second wife, Diane Digan Jennings, and daughter, Terri Jennings. Surviving him are his wife, Linda, sons, Harry G. and wife, Sanja, William M., Ronny, Ricky, Bud, Debbie McGrory and husband, Kevin, Tim and wife, Karen, Randy and wife, Samantha, Lori Boyer and husband, Patrick, Curtis Martin and wife Tina along with numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren; brother, "Little" Jack Jennings and wife, Betty Sue, sister, Vera Wannell and husband George. Family invites all who would like to honor Jack to join them on Thursday, January 13, 2011 for a 10:00 a.m. graveside service with military honors at Albert G. Horton, Jr. Veteran Cemetery at 5310 Milner's Rd. in Suffolk, VA. This will be followed by a 12:00 p.m. Celebration of Life Service at Western Branch Community Church, located at 1935 Jolliff Rd., Chesapeake, VA. Further time of fellowship will follow the service at the church. Parr Funeral Home & Crematory is serving the family. Condolences may be registered online at www.parrfuneralhome.com.

In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to the church's newly sponsored church, New Branch Community Church located at 9608 Windsor Blvd., Windsor, VA 23607 or to The Boy Scouts of America at any council location.
