John Eldridge Groves Sr, 84, passed away on April 21, 2017. He was born in Nicholas Co, WV. He was the son of the late Ira C. and Annie May Groves. He was a US Army veteran. He retired after 30 years as an inspector for Ford Motor Co. and also 20 years as a groundskeeper for Community Electric. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Missionary Church. He was also a member of the Suffolk Masonic Lodge #30.

John is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Merle C. Groves; daughter and son in law, Darlene and Thomas Woods; sons and daughters in law, Gene and Judy Groves, Kenny and Jeannie Groves and John E. Groves Jr; seven grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; and sisters, Zada Norfleet and Anna Bailes (Jack).

His funeral service will be Wednesday, April 26, 2017 at 2:00p.m. in Calvary Baptist Missionary Church with Pastor Casey Stone officiating. Interment will be in Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Tuesday, April 25, 2017 from 7:30-9:00p.m. in Parr Funeral Home & Crematory. Memorial donations may be sent to a church food bank of your choice.
