John Edwin Williams, 78, of Suffolk, Virginia passed away October 2, 2006. He was a native of Nansemond County and retired as a field administrator for Tidewater Construction Corporation. John was a member of Suffolk Christian Church and the Baraca Class. He also served as a deacon and had numerous other board memberships. He was a member of the Suffolk Masonic Lodge #30, Scottish Rites, Khedive Shrine, Provost Guard, the Suffolk Shrine Club, the Franklin Shrine Club and a dedicated driver for the Khedive Roadrunners, Khedive Hospital Transportation Unit. John was a U.S. Army veteran after serving during the WWII and was the son of the late Lester Joyner Williams and Moses Hugh Williams. He was also predeceased by his first wife, Elizabeth W. Williams and his sister, Helen W. Gardner.
He is survived by his wife of 9 years, Doris Hurley Williams of Suffolk, VA; step-daughter and son-in-law, Cheryl and Kenneth Griffin of Suffolk, VA; step-sons and daughters-in-law, George "Bucky" Hurley, III and Kay Hurley of Suffolk, VA, Keith and Becky Hurley of Richmond, VA; 5 step-grandchildren, Laura Hurley, Heather and Chris Hurley, Kyle, Mary Shannon Griffin; sister, Alma Williams Nance of Franklin, VA; nephew, Robert Rawls Nance and his wife Brenda of Franklin, VA; 2 great nephews, Jeff and Chris Nance.
Friends may join the family Wednesday night from 7-8 p.m. at Parr Funeral Home and other times at the residence. A Graveside Service will be held Thursday, October 5, 2006, at 3:00 p.m. with Rev.
