John William
Creasy
January 1, 1932 – February 18, 2023
John W. Creasy, 91, died peacefully in his sleep on February 18, 2023. He was born in Wrightsville Beach, NC, to the late James and Mabel Richardson Creasy. He was preceded in death by his siblings, James Creasy and Ruth Costabile. Also deceased is his latest wife, Maria Christina Creasy.
His surviving children include Cusi and her husband Rick Hamlin and their children Melissa Westerman; Brandon and his wife Brittany and their children Nathan and Ellieahna Hamlin; Melissa Creasy and her wife Marianne McKee; Christine Narcomey and her son Russell McKinney; John J Creasy and his husband Jeffery Perque and John's kids Paul, Brandon, and Lindsey Creasy; stepson Gary and his wife Kathleen Hall and their daughter Kasey Hall.
John grew up in Wrightsville Beach and spent most of his time on the beach. In 1950, he joined the United State Coast Guard, where he served for almost 21 years. Much of that time was in New Orleans at the Marine Safety Office. He was a Boatswain Mate and master of knot tying. This led him to be the United States Coast Guard's representative at the 1984 World's Fair in New Orleans. He retired from working offshore in 1990, then in 1991, John and Maria moved to the Seattle area and lived with Cusi and her family. In 2005, they moved with the family to the Galveston, TX, area and finally to Suffolk, VA, in 2009, where they currently reside.
John was a character, especially with ladies. He had many nicknames in his later life, including, The Old Rat, Trouble, and Abuelo. He had a regular routine where he would go out in the morning for breakfast then go into a store like Wal-Mart and "sweet talk" all the ladies. He had girlfriends everywhere he went. The last six years, he needed more assistance, so we had caregivers come out to help him continue his routine. He loved his "girlfriends" and gave many of them special names. There was Rhonda the Rodent, Rhonda the Mouse, Tracy the Squirrel, Meta the Tormentor, Kristen the Torturer, Ruth the Sister, Cheryl the Marine Girl, and Angela the Country Girl and A.W. for Always Wonderful. He had several more caregivers, but these were among his favorites. We know they all blessed his life, and we knew he was a blessing to them.
Faith in Jesus was the most important thing to John. When he accepted Christ into his life in 1995, his view on life changed completely. He went from being a very bitter and angry person to a man at peace with his life. From then on, he spent years telling others about Jesus, writing inspirational poems, reading his Bible daily and praising the Lord in song and word. The amazing thing was that his handwriting improved drastically even though he was getting older. In his early 60's, we could barely read his handwriting, but the more he wrote, the clearer his writing became.
The Holy Spirit led John to write encouraging poems. One of the inspirational phrases he frequently liked to share was CRABTOP which stands for: C - Confess, R - Repent, A - Accept, B - Believe, T - Trust, O - Obey, and P – Pray. He believed these phrases strengthened his own faith as much as it encouraged others.
