John Carson Barnes, 79, passed away January 22, 2017.  He was born in Suffolk, VA the son of the late Archie L. and Clorene P. Barnes.  John was a United States Army veteran.  He later went on to work and retire as a right of way agent from the Virginia Department of Transportation.  He was a member of Westminster Reformed Presbyterian Church.

John is survived by his wife of 58 years, Nancy H. Barnes; daughter, Tamela Jo Barnes Schlatter and husband, Mike; sons, John Carson Barnes, Jr. and wife, Keri, Michael Wayne Barnes; grandchildren, Jordan, Garrett, Jacob, Conner, Dustin, and Kelli; and great grandchild, Olivia.

A funeral service will be held Thursday, January 26, 2017 at 1 p.m. at Westminster Reformed Presbyterian Church with Rev. Brett Carl officiating.  Burial with military honors will be held prior to the service at 12 p.m. at Albert G. Horton, Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery.  Friends may join the family Wednesday night from 7-8 p.m. at Parr Funeral Home & Crematory for a time of visitation.  In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Westminster Reformed Presbyterian Church.  Condolences may be registered online at www.parrfuneralhome.com.
