Joe Larry Sandefur, born on July 26, 1945, in Portsmouth, Virginia, passed away peacefully on April 18, 2026, in Windsor, Virginia, at the age of 80.
Joe was a dedicated sheet metal mechanic who spent many years working with Russell's Heating & Cooling. He took great pride in his craft, contributing to the comfort and well-being of countless homes and families.
A man of simple joys, Joe loved spending his time outdoors, indulging in his passions for fishing and hunting. He cherished vacation trips to the Great Smoky Mountains in North Carolina, where he found peace and tranquility surrounded by nature's beauty. Above all, he valued the time spent with his beloved family, creating memories that will be treasured forever.
Joe was preceded in death by his father, Verlyn Carman Sandefur; his mother, Anna Mae Thompson Sandefur; his loving wife of 46 years, Minnie Dell Gattis Sandefur; and his brother, Jim Sandefur.
He is survived by his three devoted daughters, Wendy S. Burch (Billy), Glenda S. Wadford, and Michelle Sandefur (Michael). His legacy continues through his cherished grandchildren, Stephanie, Justin (Marianne), Joseph, Kayla (Justin), and Emily; as well as his adored great-grandchildren, Whitney, Teagan, Brantley, Kinsley, Beau, and Cole. Joe also leaves behind his sisters, Nancy Atkinson (Jim) and Kathy Sandefur; along with three sisters-in-law, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects during a visitation, which will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Monday, April 27, 2026 at Parr Funeral Home & Crematory.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association in memory of Joe Larry Sandefur.
