Jo Ann Mae Creekmore Greene, 87, passed away March 4, 2023. She was born in Norfolk, VA the daughter of the late Joseph Raleigh Creekmore and Lottie Mae Ford Creekmore of Kempsville, VA. She was predeceased in death by her sister, Irene Taylor.
Jo Ann is survived by her husband of 66 years, Charles Russell "Pete" Greene, Jr.; daughter, Susanne Elizabeth Greene; sons, David Jeffrey "Jeff" Greene (Maria Alvarez), Michael Joseph "Joe" Greene (Marie); grandsons, Cory Greene (Erin), Ean Greene (Summer), and Justin Greene; and great granddaughter, Madelyn Greene.
A graveside service will be held Tuesday, March 14, 2023 at 1 p.m. at Albert G. Horton, Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery with Rev. Michael D. Halley officiating. Friends may also join the family for a time of visitation Monday night from 5-6 p.m. at Parr Funeral Home & Crematory, 3515 Robs Drive, Suffolk, VA. Memorial donations may be made to Isle of Wight County Animal Shelter. Condolences may be registered online at www.parrfuneralhome.com. The family will receive friends at the home of Joe and Marie Greene following the graveside service.
Jo Ann was a graduate of the 1954 class of Kempsville High School where she met her husband Charles R. Greene, Jr. (Pete). She received her Certificate as a Licensed Practical Nurse in 1955. Jo Ann and Pete married on April 8, 1956. Jo Ann was a stay-at-home mom who loved her family and friends. Jo Ann and Pete also shared a lifelong friendship with high school classmates, Bobby and Carol Davis, Ping and Barbara Foxwell, and Paul, Ruth and Jeannie Vestal. They did everything together, weekends at the lot, ski trips, cookouts at each other's home. This amazing friendship extended to their children who also became lifelong friends.
Jo Ann enjoyed gardening, bird watching, going to the beach and shopping. Some of her favorite activities were going to the Virginia Beach Boardwalk Art Show, the Pork Peanut and Pine Festival in Surry County, the Virginia Zoo and Busch Gardens where she loved riding roller coasters. JoAnn loved her animals, there were goats, chickens, and cats which were her favorite. Later in life she developed a passion for NASCAR with her favorite driver being Jeff Gordon #24.
The family would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to her wonderful caregivers who showed JoAnn much love and compassion, Karollyn & Ian Watson, the staff at Riverside Healthy Living Community and Riverside Hospice.
