Joan Howell Sloan, 77, of Suffolk, VA passed away on April 2, 2014.  A native of Norfolk, VA she was the daughter of the late Alton H. Howell and Catherine S. Howell.  She was predeceased by her husband, Gerald W. Sloan and her sister, Gloria Howell Probert. She was a retired Banker.  Joan was a member of Providence United Methodist Church where she sang in the choir for many years and actively served in many different areas of the church.

She is survived by her stepson, Michael W. Sloan; nieces and their spouses, Gloria Smith Charest (Andre) and Mara Morgan Sanders (Carl); cousins, Joyce and Richard Faison, Rick Faison, and Judy Harcum; great nieces and nephews, Mark, Erich, Kelly, Jenna, and Rachel.

A funeral service will be held Monday, April 7, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at  Parr Funeral Home and Crematory, with the Rev. Dr. Garland K.
