Joan Rhea Garrett Abbott, 78, departed this life and entered into eternal life on June 7, 2021.  She was born in Virginia Beach, VA the daughter of the late Marvin Samuel Garrett and Dorothy Lee Reid Garrett Pritchett.  Joan is predeceased by her husband of 52 years, Johnnie "Monk" Wilson Abbott, Sr.  She retired as a secretary for Pretlow & Pretlow, but being a homemaker was her number one priority.  She attended Open Door Church.

Joan was a loving sister, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.  She was always busy behind the scenes caring for others.  She will always be remembered for her selflessness.

Joan is survived by her children, Johnnie W. Abbott, Jr. (Terri), Sherry A. Outland (John), Herbie P. Abbott, and Kim A. Gomer; grandchildren, Amber, Joan, Sarah, Herbie, Cameron, Johnnie, Garrett, and Darlena; great grandchildren, Kaiyah, Brayden, Maverick, Alivia, Jace, Aralyn, Brynlee, and Gunner; sister, Linda Rodgers (Richard); uncle, Henry "Pete" Reid; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held Saturday, June 12, 2021 at 1 p.m. at Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens with Pastor Tony Peaks officiating.  Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.  Condolences may be registered online at www.parrfuneralhome.com.  A true gift from God, "Maw", as she was known by so many will be sadly missed by all.
