Obituary

Jerry Cober Lowe, born on February 1, 1949, in Edenton, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on May 22, 2026, in Windsor, Virginia, at the age of 77. He was a devoted family man, a dedicated worker, and a faithful servant to his community and church.

Jerry spent his career as an Inside Machinist at the Norfolk Naval Shipyard, where he was known for his skill and dedication. His work ethic and commitment were admired by his colleagues and friends throughout his years of service.

Beyond his professional life, Jerry had a true passion for Southern gospel music, singing with various groups for over 50 years. His love for music resonated deeply with those who knew him, bringing joy and inspiration to many. He also cherished the great outdoors, spending countless hours hunting, fishing, and tending to his garden. His handcrafted birdhouses were a testament to his creativity and craftsmanship.

A man of faith, Jerry was a devoted member of Southside Baptist Church, where he found solace and strength in his spiritual journey. The church community, along with Pastor Fred Gray, will hold a funeral service in his honor at 3:00 pm on Thursday, May 28, 2026. The service will be held at Southside Baptist Church, with visitation beginning one hour prior. Burial will be private at Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery.

Jerry was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Hubert Harrell Lowe and Helen Evans Lowe. He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Susan Nixon Lowe; his cherished children, daughter, Michelle Lowe Myers and her husband, Christopher, and son, Jeremy Brian Lowe and his wife, Krystyn. He also leaves behind his treasured grandchildren, Tyler Caden Lowe, Madison Taylor Lowe, and her fiancé, Jackson, Ian Alexander Duffy, Kristen Nicole Duffy, and McKenna Bailey Myers; as well as his great-granddaughter, Juniper Isa Miller. Jerry is also survived by his dear sister, Roseland Lowe Worrell, and her husband, Donald; and his beloved pets, Peter and Evie.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the American Cancer Society.

Jerry Cober Lowe will be remembered for his gentle spirit, his unwavering faith, and the love he shared with all who knew him. His memory will live on in the hearts of his family and friends forever.
