Jean Holland
Pavlina
January 22, 1938 – July 17, 2021
Jean Holland Pavlina went to her heavenly home on July 17, 2021 surrounded by family. Jean was a long time employee of the Highway Dept. in Suffolk, worked for the Norfolk Port Authority, and had other various clerical jobs. She loved to have fun and dance, especially when she was young, single, and living in VA Beach. She had many friends and her best friend, Edna, and she would take a lot of trips across the world. Her travels would translate into good stories, which she would later tell her sisters. Jean graduated from Windsor High School in 1956 and continued to be in close contact with all of her high school friends, Kitty Henry, Betty Modlin and Margaret Riddick. She loved getting together with them for lunch at various restaurants. The last three years have been a struggle with various problems, but through it all she managed to keep her sense of humor. She was always kind to everyone and tried to stay optimistic during her struggles.
Jean is predeceased by her parents, Ella B. and Vernon Awood Holland; siblings, Awood Holland, Hilda O'Berry, Joseph Holland, Grace Brown, Della Edwards, Charlie Holland, Willard Holland, Ray Holland, and Ann Rountree.
Jean is survived by her siblings, Dorothy H. Byrum, Jane H. Mountcastle, Betty H. O'Berry, and Russell Holland; 28 nieces and nephews; 37 great nieces and nephews; a whole bunch of friends; special neighbor, Shirley Paxton, who was a giving and loving friend; and 10 first cousins.
The family would like to thank all of the nurses and doctors at Norfolk General Hospital and also the EMTs from Chesapeake, who visited her and carried her frequently to the hospital.
Jean's funeral service will be 2:00 pm, Friday, July 23, 2021 at Parr Funeral Home & Crematory with Pastor Rob Slingluff officiating. Burial will follow at Windsor Cemetery. Visitation will be 6-8:00 pm, Thursday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the American Heart Association.
