Jean "Poo" Luter Butcher, 97, passed away January 23, 2026.  She was born in  Suffolk, VA the daughter of the late Rosser Clayton Luter, Sr. and Dorothy Louise Rountree Luter.  She was also predeceased by her siblings, Evelyn Archer and Rosser Clayton Luter, Jr.; and son-in-law, Stuart Doughtie.  Jean retired as a CNA for Nansemond Pointe.  During her time there she helped lead Bible studies with Pastor Jon Eid for over 30 years and also shared her love for baking cakes with the residents.  She was a member of Suffolk Presbyterian Church.

Jean is survived by her children, Ann Doughtie and Harry Edward Spalding (Christine); grandchildren, Harrison E. Spalding (Valeria), Taylor Doughtie, and Paul Hayden Spalding (Michelle); and numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial graveside service will be held Wednesday, January 28, 2026 at 11 a.m. at Holly Lawn Cemetery with Rev. Julie Sterling officiating.  A reception will be held following the service at Suffolk Presbyterian Church located at West End Baptist Church, 501 W.
