Obituary

Janice Ann Swain, 81, born March 13, 1936 to Kenneth and Eleanor Leazott of Altona, NY.

Janice grew up in Altona, NY, where she was valedictorian of Altona High School. She played piano, organ and trumpet and also directed her high school band. She also organized the first parade for her high school and her teacher personally came to see it. She had a horse named, "Bing" as in Bing Crosby, who would take himself up to the 5 & Dime store, walk in and be given an ice cream to trot home with. Mom's gift of music was utilized for many years as she served in the church as the pianist, organist and choir director. She raised three adopted children and had foster children in her home. She enjoyed reading her Bible and listening to gospel and classical music, which led her to meet her husband, Charles B. Swain of nearly 25 years. She was looking for the sheet music for "Clair de lune" in which he overheard, found it and by another chance meeting, was able to present it to her. Charles and Jan had a short courtship like young love. They both shared the talent to play music and enjoyed card games, puzzles and the beach.

Janice is survived by her husband, Charles B. Swain; daughters, Sheri Elsasser of Prague, OK and Joy Calhoun (Joseph Marvin) of Gaines, NY; son, Stephen Calhoun of Nanjemay, MD; granddaughter, Amber Marvin and her beloved cat, Ruthie, who is large and in charge.

Janice's memorial service will be held 2:00p, Saturday, January 27, 2018 in Harvest Fellowship Baptist Church with Pastor Randy Green officiating. In lieu of flowers, please send memorial donations to Harvest Fellowship Baptist Church. Post condolences on www.parrfuneralhome.com .
