James W. "Jay" Knight, Jr., 85, of Virginia Beach went to be with the Lord on October 2, 2015. He was born in Henderson, NC on September 28, 1930 to the late James W. and Mary C. Knight. He is also predeceased by two sisters, Vivian McFarland and Shirley Tew, and three brothers, Vester, Archie and Billy Knight. He was a carpenter and building contractor for over 50 years.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Mary Eleanor; a daughter, Sandra Warner of TX; three sons, David of FL, Terry (Deborah) of Chesapeake, and Ken (RoseMary) of Suffolk; seven grandchildren; three great grandchildren; sister Charlotte Ayscue of Henderson, North Carolina; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
He was an active member of St. John's Baptist Church for over 55 years, serving as a deacon, and property and building committee chairman. He started the Video ministry and was an active member of the Sunday school.
A funeral service will be held Monday, October 5, 2015, at 11 a.m. at St. John's Baptist Church, 2300 Holland Road, Virginia Beach, VA 23453 with Charles Atkinson and Pastor Chuck Haley officiating. Entombment will be held Wednesday, October 7, 2015 at 11 a.m. at Princess Anne Memorial Park.
