Obituary

James Randall Vick, affectionately known as Randy, passed away on July 3, 2026, at the age of 73 in Suffolk, Virginia. Born on September 20, 1952, in Cambridgeshire, England, Randy led a life marked by dedication, service, and love.

Randy served his country honorably in the United States Air Force as a Corpsman. During his time at Langley Air Force Base, he operated the ambulance and worked diligently in the emergency room, showcasing his commitment to helping others in times of need.

Following his military service, Randy devoted over four decades of his career to Obici Hospital, where he worked in various capacities including respiratory care, facilities management, and as a safety officer. His unwavering commitment to the community extended beyond the hospital as he volunteered as a paramedic with the Nansemond-Suffolk Rescue Squad, always ready to lend a helping hand to those in distress.

A man of varied interests, Randy had a passion for computers and computer games, always eager to learn new technologies. He found great joy in aircrafts and attending air shows, marveling at the feats of aviation. Fishing provided him with a sense of peace and connection to nature, moments he cherished deeply.

Randy was preceded in death by his beloved parents, James Albert Vick and Laura Bertha Emory Vick, as well as his cherished daughter, Ella Maxine Mizelle. He is survived by his devoted wife, Janet Vick; his son, Jamie Vick; and his grandchildren, Noah and Dhelia Vick, who were the light of his life. He also leaves behind his brother, Brian Vick and sister-in-law Martha, along with a niece and a nephew.

A celebration of Randy's life will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, July 9, 2026, at Reynoldson Baptist Church in Gates, North Carolina, with Pastor Cody Brinkley officiating. Family and friends are welcome to visit at the residence following the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the American Cancer Society in Randy's memory.
